Värmland is filled with culture, adventure, challenges and lots of fun activities. Proximity to the water and nature make Värmland a popular destination for fishing, hiking, canoeing and riding. There are also exciting activities such as moose and beaver safaris, gold-washing, inspection trolleys and horse and carriage rides. The wilderness lakes make Värmland an eldorado for canoeing. You can also ski in the summer in Sweden’s only ski tunnel in Torsby.
Sweden’s longest river Klarälven flows through the province, dividing it into two parts before discharging into one of Europe’s biggest lakes, Vänern. Take family or friends on an unforgettable adventure. Build your own log raft with guidance from an expert and then travel slowly along River Klarälven, enjoying the views and the tranquillity of the wilderness. For those who prefer to stay beside the water there is a traffic-free path along River Klarälven on which you can cycle or walk.
Visit Värmland’s biggest and unique nature reserve Glaskogen, where you can cycle, hike and paddle through fantastic nature. Moose, mountain hares, martens, foxes and beavers are common in the area. A good way of discovering Glaskogen is by canoe. There are many nice canoe routes and lots of lakes with potable water. Glaskogen is also perfect for hiking. There are 300 km of footpaths to choose from. The Kil ravines are another nature reserve, with the county’s biggest ravine system, which is considered unique to Värmland.
For those who like culture, a visit to Selma Lagerlöf’s Mårbacka in Sunne is a must. There you can learn about Selma Lagerlöf, one of the world’s best-known authors through a visit to her childhood home Mårbacka. Selma Lagerlöf was the first woman to be awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1909. And, don’t miss a visit to the fantastic flower and sculpture park Rottneros.
